Rick FitzZaland has worked in the health and social services sector in BC for over 40 years. He has worked in senior roles in government, in the non-profit sector, and as a private consultant. He served for ten years as the Executive Director of the Federation of Community Social Services of BC. He was a founding member of the BC Social Services Sector Roundtable, and represented the community social services sector on the BC Economic Recovery Task Force.

His volunteer work has included setting up a school for the deaf in Chili, fundraising for special education programs in Mexico and setting up an international parent support group for families of children with Rare Genetic Syndromes.

His work within the social services sector is informed by his experiences, but his passion for his work comes from him and his wife Mary’s many years as foster parents, raising their children and grandchildren, and the many challenges they have faced with their adopted special needs son.

Rick’s joy comes from his family and from working with people who care.
